PARENTS:

We have been part of this Dojo Family for over ten years. It seems like it was yesterday, when we first enrolled our son as a white belt and our daughter thereafter. Many memories we have, a lot of sweat, bruises, hard work and trophies, but most of all the satisfaction to see our son and daughter excel outside the dojo. Karate has given us a lot, like the warm feeling of a big family with the objective of teaching the kids the art of karate. They both have gained a lot from their training with Sensei Jim Kelly and with no doubt the leadership, confidence and self discipline obtained will always be the best tools for their futures

Our son Ryan has been a student at Cape Coral Isshinryu Karate for eight years. Karate has been a big part of Ryan’s life. He has learned so much from karate including self-defense, self-discipline and most importantly that hard work makes you confident and strong. Sensei Kelly has a great teaching ability and knows how to teach each student age and rank appropriately and takes pride in his student’s achievements. We have enjoyed being part of the dojo family over the years and have made many good friends. It has not only been a great experience for our son but for the entire family.

Our son Christian has been part of the Cape Coral Isshinryu family since October of 2004. He started martial arts in Miami when he was 3 years old. In 2002, we moved to Cape Coral and started our search for dojos in our area that would provide our son with the knowledge of martial arts, self-defense, discipline, respect but most importantly the ability to focus and complete tasks. After a two year search we found Cape Coral Isshinryu which exceeded our expectations. Sensei Kelly and his team of black belts welcomed our son with open arms and have helped him through his struggles while building his self-confidence. Christian has shown great improvements with his ability to focus and complete tasks at home and school. We never thought he would be able to remember his first kata. Christian is now a blue belt and has every intention to become a black belt one day. Sensei Kelly and his black belts have become role models for our son. We are very grateful and have been blessed that our son has found a home away from home.

Our 8 yr old son has been attending Cape Coral Isshinryu Karate Academy for 14 months now and it has been great to watch his progress. We remember him telling us, when he was shown his first basic kata, that he would never "remember all that". Not only did he remember it, but he has won a few trophies for performing far more complicated katas (than that first one) in public. One great lesson he has learned from being in this karate class is that with perseverance he can do anything he wants!

STUDENTS:

I originally joined karate to have a daddy daughter thing to do with Estefanie. I was a little worried at first that I was too old, too out of shape, with too many physical challenges to be able to do it. My wife was just plain scared to death about it. She quickly pointed out to me how crazy it was for me to join a contact sport with a fused neck and pinched nerves in my back, being a heavy smoker-having COPD (which karate help me quit after 38 years of smoking 3 packs a day), and for being a high risk for a heart attack She reminded me of how for 12 years I walked with a cane, and how the doctors told me that I would probably not ever walk without one, that I would have to treat my back with kid gloves for the rest of my life because my back would continually worsen as I got older— That was 20 years ago that they said that. However, after a brief discussion she fully supported my decision then, and still to this day supports me, even if she does not like to watch me fight. She not only supports me, but plays doctor when I over do it. It is all possible because of my love for Estefi and the importance of doing things together-- and of course with the motivation from Sensei with all his back problems. Seeing how he did it has help me tremendously. I’m doing it and have been for 2 years now. Most importantly—I’M LOVING IT.

Thanks Sensei!

My son Blake showed an interest in karate when he was 4 1/2. We signed him up when he was 5 so that he would learn how to defend himself if need be. Karate turned out to be so much more for Blake....he has learned (and is still learning) self discipline, self control, the ability to take direction, and respect for others, to name a few.

Over the course of Blake taking karate, I decided to start taking classes too. I love every minute of class even when it's tough. I am 34 years old but am stronger than I have ever been and more physically fit. I am working towards my black belt (hopefully one day) and aspire to be a positive role model for others who think they can't do something because they are not teenagers anymore.

Jim Kelly and everyone else at karate have become an extension of our family. We feel very lucky to be a part of Cape Coral Karate and look forward to many years to come!

Thanks Sensei!

I've been taking Karate for almost 3 years now and the I like about it are:

  • We are encouraged to do the best we can in class so we are ready to compete in shiais and tournaments!
  • I enjoy the Isshinryu style of karate.
  • We are given a lot of opportunities to ask questions and have additional practice time so we can improve on our katas.
  • And....after the shiais we have have a great time when we go to a local restaurant and chill out with our karate friends.
Thank-you for being the best,    :-)
